Samsung UltraB S7220

March 30th, 2009 admin No comments

Unveiled during the MWC 2009 at Barcelona, the Samsung UltraB S7220 was clearly a sideshow for what phone can ever compete with the OmniaHD, let alone an UltraB? However, it does present a fairly good package.

The UltraB S7220 has a really cool look about it, incorporating the metal brush frame which can be seem from the touchscreen phone, the S8300 UltraTOUCH. Samsung mobile phones have clearly considered the design of the S8300 as the basis and, it has to be admitted, it would be love at first sight for most people who see the phone for the first time.
Something to note about the Samsung UltraB S7220 is that it incorporates an OLED 2.2 inch screen with a color display of 262k.

A variety of color hues along with a number of background animations can be seen throughout the new UI which is Flash – based and is something which can be seen in most of the phones in the Ultra line. The accelerometer – based action also includes turn-to-mute, auto-rotation and the motion image viewer which was first found in the Pixon.
The 5 MPIX snapper with autofocus also has an LED flash, and an FM radio can also be found in the phone. A microSD slot is available for extending the memory, which can be done upto a maximum of 16GB.

As far as connectivity goes, the phone supports HSDPA, EDGE, stereo Bluetooth v2.1 and also has a microUSB for connecting the data cable. GPS facilities are also available, along with an onboard A-GPS receiver so that you won’t get lost wherever you go.
However, quite strangely, there isn’t a secondary camera, which is surprising when looking at the other features of the phone.

The Samsung S7220 UltraB is expected to make its entry into the market in March 2009 at a price of 329 Euros before subsidies and taxes.

Samsung M7600 BeatDJ

March 29th, 2009 admin No comments

One of the new phones in the Samsung BEAT range, the Samsung M7600 BEAT DJ stands out. It allows you to mix your music just the way you want it thus taking music capabilities of a phone to a different level.

The M7600 BEAT DJ has a rounded top and bottom. It is compact and weighs about 100 grams making it very pocket friendly. Its distinctive rounded edges make it quite an unusual looking handset. The body of the phone is made of plastic with the display framed with metallic gloss. The sides are painted in violet.

The M7600 BEAT DJ has a 2.8 inch OLED touch screen with a WQVGA resolution.

The touch sensitive scroll is at the centre of the front of the phone. What’s interesting is the semicircular touchpad in the empty space between the screen and the call buttons. In conventional phones, this area gets used in music applications. With the touch screen it forms this circular scroll.

The phone uses the Samsung touch UI which is the latest version of TouchWiz.It has a 50 MB integrated memory which is expandable up to 16 GB via the microSD card slot.

Connectivity options are pretty standard for a non Smartphone. It has Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, a GPS receiver and a standard micro USB port.

The best feature of the phone is the Beat DJ application which works through the touchscreen. There are a variety of effects such as changing the tempo, overlaying filters, reverb and you can even add samples of your own voice into the mix. The recorded tracks can be used as an alarm or even a ringtone, but can’t be exported due to rights issues. The audio quality when listening to music through headphones is good due to the SRS virtual surround sound.

Other features include a 3.5 mm jack , recordable FM radio, and a 3 MP autofocus camera with Power LED flash, and VGA video.

Disadvantages of the phone partially surround the display which can feel quite cramped specially when messaging. The Beat DJ application is fun, but once you use it for a while and get bored of it, there’s not much else the phone has to offer. Even the Disc user interface is not revolutionary and is similar to Coverflow technology.

Overall it is still a unique music phone very different from the other music phones in the market. Anyone interested should check out the mobile phone offersat Moby 1.

Nokia 5630 XpressMusic

March 28th, 2009 admin No comments

In an attempt to really give the XpressMusic line a ‘oomph’ factor, Nokia unveiled the earlier ‘leaked’ Nokia 5630 XpressMusic, which is a mere 12mm thick and weighs an unbelievable 83 grams, making it the lightest as well as the slimmest S60 Nokia phone. The 5630 XpressMusic is clearly set to be the successor of the previously popular 5320, which was also targeted mainly at the teenage market.

Taking its position as the successor to the 5320 XpressMusic, the Nokia 5630 XpressMusic features a 3MPIX camera, better ‘Active Standby’ home screen, N – Gage gaming facilities and will also come with a 4GB microSD memory card.

It runs on the S60 platform and positions itself as a phone which is affordable, yet has some great multimedia features. As is the feature of XpressMusic phones, it sports a 3.5mm audio jack, which will enable you to use your own headphones if you prefer to do so, and has dedicated music keys (play/pause, next track and previous track). The phone also has the ‘Say and Play’ feature, which enables you to get the song by saying the name of the track or the artist.

Nokia
went ‘hell-for-leather’ with the connectivity side and gave the 5630 XM Wi-Fi, HSUPA, HSDPA, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, USB (charging also available) and Bluetooth. They also ‘attached’ their own Music Store to the phone. Some countries will also get ‘Come With Music’ as well. The N-Gage support will ensure that you have some superb games at your disposal.

The final feature that should be mentioned is the 3 megapixel camera, which also has autofocus with a LED flash and also has a microSD card slot.

The 5630 XpressMusic is expected to ship somewhere during the 2nd quarter of 2009 and will come with a 4GB memory card.

Samsung S3500

March 28th, 2009 admin No comments

Samsung has announced that they would release a new phone, the S3500, which is a new slider which has a stainless steel phone which gives the phone a lot of durability, style and resistance to scratches.
There is also clearly a connection with the Soul series because of the fact that it is trying to make itself presentable even though it is somewhat at the bottom of the ladder. The metallic look and pretty much the same screen which was found in the U900 Soul obviously makes it something which turns heads around. However, a touch pad would have been utterly useless and quite a nuisance considering the price range and target of the phone.
At a mere 13.9 mm of thickness, the Samsung S3500 slides out to show a normal alphanumeric keypad. The user will be able to choose between the 3 themes that are already present on the phone or go for the large variety of themes that are available on the internet. The Samsung S3500 has a 2.2” 262k color screen. Other features of the phone include a FM radio with RDS and a media player, in addition to Stereo Bluetooth so that you can use bluetooth headsets with the phone. The Samsung S3500 has a 2 MPIX snapper which can also shoot videos.
A feature called the ‘Mobile Tracker’ comes on board, whereby the user can find out the location of the lost or stolen phone as soon as a new SIM is inserted. The phone also has a feature whereby the user can send pre-defined SOS messages to particular numbers and stimulate some incoming calls so that any unpleasant situations or conversations can be avoided. The phone will start retailing at about $207, but the period of release has not been confirmed yet.

Samsung Watch Phone

March 27th, 2009 admin No comments

It now looks like LG isn’t going to be dominating the ‘watch phone’ market for ever. Samsung mobile phones have also embarked on the manufacture of watch – shaped phones. This was revealed at the MWC 2009 in Barcelona, which was unveiled as the Samsung GT S1100 watch phone.
However, the watch-phone was kept inside the glass box at the MWC so it was difficult to get a close look at it and get a lot of details but from what Samsung have revealed, it will be operated with a full touchscreen, has a speakerphone and bluetooth, just like the LG GD910.
Samsung is supposed to have started on the development of watch phones for more than a decade, and the Samsung GT S1100 watch phone seems to be something which has evolved through the years. The watch phone might be released sometime this year and its release is being eagerly anticipated.
Other than the specifications that we’ve released earlier, Samsung wasn’t really nice enough to reveal anything else on the watch phone, nor did they give any details as to the particular time during which the watch phone would be released. This is subject to if they actually release the phone because it is quite a frequent occurrence that such prototypes don’t see the light of day, which makes LG’s phone the first ever to be released.
Yu might remember last year that LG showed the prototype of the GD910 around a year ago at the CES 2008 and only announced the date of release nearly a year later. Perhaps, there’s a big chance that Samsung might also do the same and we may see the GT S1100 watch phone make its appearance into the market only next year!
see engadget for more details.

LG GD900 crystal

March 26th, 2009 admin No comments

LG really doesn’t have a big reputation of rolling out the most tech – savvy phones, but one thing that they surely are good at is creating phones that are meant to bring out the ‘wow’ in you. This is precisely the biggest reason why there always seems to be a big crowd at its booth every MWC.

The LG GD900 Crystal is precisely one such phone. Though it isn’t exactly ‘earth-shattering’, LG did have a really cool handset that really took our breath away. LG always manages to turn heads with the design of their phones, and the LG GD900 Crystal sure does take it to a whole new level.

As you may have seen in the picture, the LG GD900 Crystal is a slider which has a totally transparent keypad. Yep, you didn’t read wrong. You can see the palm of your hand when you have it in your hand. When you open it, the keypad shows off a ‘cool glow which reflects the phone’s polished and sleek silver body’.
The keypad is really awesome, and I sure did want to kill the people manning the LG booth for keeping it locked inside a showcase, thereby preventing us from ‘staining’ the phone. LG have also promised a bluetooth headset which will incorporate a similar design!

As more and more manufacturers tend to load the phones with unbelievable features, most manufacturers tend to ignore the fact that ‘fashion’ phones still have a big fan following. It’s generally the case that the simple but beautiful phone that wins in the end.
LG hasn’t given out any specifications about the phone, but they’ve announced a release date of somewhere during the 3rd quarter of this year.

To get more details on the phone, see the official press release.
