Motorola Droid Launched as Milestone in Europe
After the success of its early RAZR and the ROKR models, it looks like Motorola has just created its most stunning piece of mobile phone wizardry inside and out with the Motorola DROID. With Google and Verizon behind it, Motorola has a sure winner in its portfolio. Slated to be released in Europe by end of November as the Motorola Milestone, the Motorola Droid is poised to take on the best of what the competition has to offer and possibly reverse the failing fortunes of the one mighty Motorola.
Upscale High Value Features
With Google and network giant Verizon behind it, the Motorola DROID can lay claim to a couple of World’s Firsts to its name. It’s certainly the first to use the new Android 2.0 platform and with just 13.7mm thickness, it the arguably the world’s thinnest or at least one of the thinnest full QWERTY slider touchscreen in the market.
But that’s really nothing compared to the promise it holds both inside and out. With features that matches what the best flagship smartphones offer such as a stunning 3.7” capacitive touchscreen with WVGA resolution and accelerometer sensors, a 5 megapixel autofocusing camera with LED flash.
There’s geo tagging and video recording of DVD quality and 3G/UMTS and WiFi for high speed data connectivity as well as Bluetooth 2/1 with EDR and A2DP, there’s no doubt the Motorola Droid is out to challenge the best from Nokia, HTC, Samsung and can even pose a challenge to the iPhone.
More than its hardware features, Google made sure that its’ entire Google application muscle gets behind the Motorola Droid. There’s Google Web search, Google Apps and Google Maps that is an equal to any GPR guidance system on mobile gadgets. It is currently only available on the DROID though Motorola’s own MOTONAV takes its place for the European Milestone version. All that on top of the Google Android 2 platform.
Verdict
This is a very capable QWERTY Slider handset that has all the promise to bring Motorola back into the limelight as well as the Android phone into the mainstream of mobile telephony. With an upscale feature set and a friendly SIM-free price, you have one appealing handset to include in your Christmas shopping list.
