The New Samsung B7620 Giorgio Armani at a Glance
It is not uncommon for mobile phone makers to team-up with noted haute couture designers to come out with a unique handset or to dress-up one from among its mobile phone portfolio. We’ve had plenty of those over the last few years. The latest comes from Samsung with the Armani brand and aura written over it – the Samsung B7620 Giorgio Armani smartphone. This could well be the world’s brainiest and more powerful fashion phone ever, and quite easily the most expensive as well at €700 or close to $1,000, to hell with the recession.
High End Sophistication
Shattering all notions of what a sleek and sexy fashion phone is, the third Samsung Armani handset might be the world’s most powerful smartphone, but it’s also the heftiest measuring 118.5 x 58.3 x 16.4mm and weighs 164 grams. It’s basically a B7610 Omnia Pro dressed to the hilt with a gold trim on its full-QWERTY slider touchscreen form factor.
But there are significant differences apart from the cosmetic color change. The Samsung B7620 Giorgio Armani model enjoys better typing and viewing ergonomics with a 30-degree display tilt when fully slid out. It has a more generous 8 GB of internal memory whereas the Pro only has 1GB. You get the same autofocus camera with flash but the Armani get a higher 5 megapixel resolution over the 3 megapixel on the Pro.
Other than these, you can call them twins, alright. They both have the same 3.5” Wide VGA AMOLED touchscreen and auto-rating viewing orientation from its accelerometer. Both are quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE on 2G and tri band WCDMA/UMTS on 3G with broadband HDPA, WiFi, A-GPS and Bluetooth data connectivity. With a powerful 800MHz ARM processor running on the Windows Mobile 6.5, corporate users can get a familiar multitasking and MS Office file reading ability, full internet browsing with its latest Opera browser and push email features.
Recommendation
If you can afford it, the Samsung B7620 Giorgio Armani is the most capable QWERTY touchscreen smartphone that carries the flamboyant aura of the Armani name all over it. Otherwise, the Omnia Pro is just as capable on a more demure outfit and minus the bragging rights.
