January 27 has been a very happy day for Apple, or at least for Steve Jobs. The Apple iPad launch has been a very successful event and from the initial looks of things, people are looking forward to seeing the potential of the new tablet.
Now, let us take a couple of steps back and see why it actually makes sense to spend some hard earned cash on a tablet even though devices such as 3G smart phones and net books already exist.
Imagine sitting at the breakfast table in the morning. Now you want to read the news. Obviously, the most comprehensive news you will find will be online, on your computer; but there is hardly any space on your table to pop it up. This leaves you with either your mobile phone’s RSS reader or the morning paper.
Now imagine having another alternative, the Apple iPad. It is small enough to leave lying around the dining area or your living room. It is slim and light, if you can manage to flip open a newspaper in the dining table, you can handle the tablet. Despite its size, it delivers a complete desktop browsing experience.
For this alone, the iPad is already a very invaluable item to have at home. In fact, it would make perfect sense to have one for almost every individual in the house. Web browsing is not the only function it can do too. The iPad comes with iWork for handling documents making it the perfect accompaniment to a student or for quickly handling office work. The tablet also works great for people who love reading eBooks as well.
Overall, the iPad is a sign of many things to come; devices such as Apple’s tablet will certainly change the way we live in the future.
Samsung are well known for producing high quality and reliable phones. They use a lot of care when putting them together, and Samsung put all their phones through vigorous testing before being released, to make sure they all work well and without problems. The new phone from Samsung, the Galaxy Portal runs on Google’s own operating system, Android.
Using Android allows you super fast speeds on the phone, and generally cuts out up to 50 percent of loading times, including turning the phone on, turning it off and starting up applications. The phone was previously nicknamed the Galaxy Lite, as it could be argued to be a slight downgrade from the Galaxy i7500. Featuring a 3 megapixel camera the phone will not be used to create professional looking photos any time soon, but it is still able to grab images of times where you want to treasure the moment. Once you have taken a photograph you can either upload it directly to a social networking site from your phone, or transfer it across to your computer for editing or anything else.
If you are interested in getting a Galaxy Portal then you must first live in Europe, Asia or the Middle East. Other continents may receive the phone at some point, although a date has not been given nor has conformation that it actually will. Overall the Samsung i5700 Galaxy Portal is a great phone if you want something cheap yet reliable.
The Apple iPad is definitely going to be more of a home use device than a portable gadget. But will people adapt to this new technology or is having a net book a much better idea?
McGraw-Hill certainly thinks that the much rumoured Apple iPad has its place in our future. The major corporation just confirmed to the world that they are working with Apple in order to convert published material into the tablet.
The prevalence of E-Book readers, the Kindle and other similar devices is a definite sign that there is a solid market for devices that let your read books. And it seems like these devices might be seeing a major competitor in the form of the iPad.
Will the tablet be a successful digital book reader? It seems most certainly so. The device is slim and light; and judging from Apple’s history with hand touch screens we can expect the controls and the overall graphic capabilities of the device to be top notch.
Some reports are already discussing as to whether the device has enough hardware to run some high end games, and with companies such as EA having tie ups with Apple, that possibility will come true.
The news that McGraw-Hill brings makes us all wonder if the device will come packed with a small library of ready to read books or if they will be having a specialized online E-Book store for tablet users.
The iPad itself has already garnered praise from renowned individuals such as the former president of Google China, Kaifu Lee. The man is respected for his work in Microsoft as the vice president of interactive services and his handling of Google China from 2005 to 2009.

The HTC Smart phone is one the handset manufactures newest offerings. It will be different from most of the mobile phones manufactured by HTC. For one, this phone won’t be a typical smartphone. Instead, it will run on the Qualcomm’s Brew Mobile Platform. The features and specs also won’t be as impressive as many of the other HTC phones. There has been some talk that the Smart handset is being designed for a newer user who will hopefully upgrade to one of the company’s more expensive phones after they become acquainted with the Smart, which is a akin to a introductory phone.
The Smart has 256MB of RAM and ROM memory. Individuals can add more via the phone’s microSD card slot. It has a pretty small display at 2.8 inches which comes with a resistance screen. The phone has a 3.0 megapixel camera, which isn’t bad. There are handsets on the market with less impressive megapixels. The processor on the phone is about average at 300 MHz.
The HTC Smart is scheduled to be released in Europe and in Asia sometime during the Spring of this year (2010) which is just a few short months away. No price has been reported for the phone or any hint of what HTC Smart contracts might be on offer. However, that information should be forthcoming and will probably be announced or leaked just prior to the phone’s release.
Overall, the HTC Smart is a pretty decent phone. It is not as good as some of the other HTC mobiles like the HD2, but it also won’t be as expensive. Individuals will be able to purchase the Smart during the first or second quarter of 2010. The company has announced that it will launch in Europe and Asia first. There has been no word regarding whether or not it will be released elsewhere and when that might occur. Until such information is given, the only thing known for sure is that the phone will be available on those continents.
With climate change and global warming becoming such a big part of our new headlines, many people are starting to take drastic measures to help reduce their carbon footprint. Most businesses and companies now have regulations in place for their offices, which include using greener light bulbs, using special taps that do not run forever but give say 10 seconds worth of water and many other features such as insulation. The new Sony Ericsson phone, the Sony Ericsson Hazel is designed to give out as little emissions as possible in the manufacturing process.
First of all, the Hazel is mainly made out of recycled plastic rather than using brand new plastic. This not only allows the price to be slightly cheaper to the public but it also means that factories do not have to burn lots of dangerous chemicals to produce new plastic, which in turn makes sure that the environment is not so badly affected. The phone features a built in manual. Rather than having a paperback manual of how the phone works, it is all built into the phone allowing you to still have all the necessary details to hand, but saving paper which in turn helps save the rainforests.
Featuring a 5 megapixel camera, you’re only a button away from taking high quality photographs which can then be uploaded directly onto your Facebook by using the Facebook widget which saves you having to go through an internet browser to connect. The Sony Ericsson eco-phone is expected to be released around March 2010, and although an official price tag has not been announced, it is expected to be available for around £130 or for a undetermined monthly rate with the Hazel on contract.
What is so special about a version number? Not much apparently, as it all it does it tell us what the latest version is. Though sadly, it also tells us how much of an update a new version truly is. And in that case, it is a sad thing to see that the new Windows Mobile operating system update is only a slight revamp of the original 6.5 as compared to a full 6.6 change.
What many people have been looking forward to as a major capacitive touch screen that is adapted version of the WinMo platform is nothing more than a minor graphic overhaul –and not a fully good one at that.
So what really happened? Most of the details as to why version 6.6 was scrapped are still scarce. Some believe that Microsoft had to rush the update to make it to the upcoming Mobile World Congress this February. By making Maldives a lot simpler than originally announced, they are able to finish it and have a device ready for the MWC which is the Garmin-Asus Nuvifone M10.
It is a gamble, but many understand the significance of the version shift. Right now, Microsoft’s presence in the mobile phone community has been nothing but a string of announcements and delays. By presenting a ready device, it would be a nice change for them.
The gamble now lies upon the shoulders of Garmin-Asus’ device. The Nuvifone is reported to be having a 3.15 inch WVGA touch screen display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels (the source page has a typo stating a resolution of 800 x 4870 pixels). The phone will be powered by a 600 MHz CPU and will have 4GB of internal memory and a 5 mega pixel camera. It will also support expandable memory, AGPS, and WiFi.
