Hello social networks!

October 6th, 2009 Simon No comments

The Samsung B3310 is a shot by Samsung at the growing popularity of social networks such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. Basically, this is a phone which is designed mainly towards those who use these networks, as well as those who want a nice stylish phone on a budget.

Innovation is pretty much everything in the mobile phone industry. Without any innovation, phones would have been just phones, rather than dedicated music players or navigation devices. There wouldn’t be email, internet, Bluetooth, cameras, big colour screens, GPS, touchscreen, high speed internet and so fort. However, there is a certain boundary to such innovation and Samsung certainly seem to have crossed the boundary with the B3310. The phone itself isn’t so bad, it’s just that the motivation behind putting the alphanumeric keys on the side of the screen is mind – baffling!

We all know how phones with quirky keypads like the Nokia 3650 and the Nokia 7600 faded into obscurity, so this phone, too, seems resigned to the same fate. However, a good specs sheet, combined with the QWERTY keyboard, save the phone from plunging into the depths of obscurity.

Other than the quirky alphanumeric keys, the phone, as mentioned earlier, has a full QWERTY keyboard which is revealed by sliding the phone sideways. Under the screen is a very big 5 – directional D-pad as well as 2 navigation keys and a call accept and call reject button. We just get the feeling that, rather than making these keys so big, they could’ve rather made the screen a bit bigger.

Other features of the phone include a TFT QVGA screen which displays a maximum of 256k colours, an accelerometer sensor, a 2 megapixel camera with QVGA video recording, stereo Bluetooth, music player, video player and an internal memory of 40 MB which is expandable via the microSD memory card slot.

This phone was released back in the middle of September and there are lots of nice Samsung B3310 deals to choose from right now.
